Renzo
Balestrini set up the Company in 1954, and decided the
Company's business activity was to specialize itself in
particular sectors.
The founder began by manufacturing circular blade and
sliding-carriage tenoning machines, but soon in 1956 his
innovative mind gave birth to the first patent and in 1959
this led him to realize the machine that launched the
Company's activity on markets throughout the world. It was
the 2TAO tenoning machine, the first round-end tenoning
machine to work in an automatic cycle, with two work-tables
capable of producing horizontal, vertical tenons cut with
compound angles. The machine represented a true
revolution for those times; indeed, 40 years later this type
of machine, consequently updated according to modern
techniques (today it is called PICO), remains an essential
cutting-edge machine tool for every chair-producing factory
in any part of the world.

Pocket Hole
Joinery in its’ simplest terms is drilling a hole at an
angle into one workpiece and then joining it to a second
workpiece with a self-tapping screw. This technique was
actually invented by the Egyptians as they clamped two
workpieces together and then bored a hole at an angle from
one workpiece into the second workpiece. They then inserted
a dowel with some glue and cut it off flush with the
surface. This technique continued to evolve over the years
into two main joinery methods, doweling and more recently,
pocket hole joinery. The modern pocket hole joint grew in
popularity with the creation of the self-tapping screw in
the 1980’s which eliminated the need to drill into the
second workpiece altogether.
